Chagas' cardiopathy and Trypanosoma cruzi zymodemes in Chile.

چکیده
Chagas’ disease, the most widespread parasitic ailment in Latin America, produces clinical pictures with regional variations (1). In Chile, due to the country’s geographic and ecologic isolation, specific local conditions influencing Chagas’ disease vectors differ from those prevailing in other countries. One such vector, Triatoma spinohi, has not been found in other geographic areas. Among other things, this triatomid species is rendered unique by the polymorphism of its wings (2). Longitudinal studies of clinical disease cases in Chile have shown such cases to possess distinct features in different locales and to differ considerably from clinical cases in other parts of the Americas (3-I 1). We have reported previously that the observed variations in disease intensity and pathogenicity might be caused by distinct strains of T?ypanosoma crzui (12),

Chagas' disease in Bolivia: clinical and epidemiological features and zymodeme variability of Trypanosoma cruzi strains isolated from patients.
We performed serological and pathological studies on 495 patients with Chagas' disease from different areas of Bolivia. Eighty-nine Trypanosoma cruzi strains, isolated by xenodiagnosis, were characterized by 12 isoenzyme loci and were related to the presence of cardiac changes and enteric disease with megacolon. There was a high heterogeneity of human zymodemes, presenting evidence of 2 predomi...
متن کاملPast and Present of Chagas Disease in Northern Chile* Pasado Y Presente De La Enfermedad De Chagas En El Norte De Chile
Contemporary understandings of the epidemiology of Chagas disease as well as it’s clinical features, together with knowledge of the insect vectors and genotypes of the causal agent Trypanosoma cruzi are important pieces of information for comparisons with cases in the past. Evidence indicates that 4,000 years ago in northern Chile cases displaying digestive symptoms or ‘megacolon’ were frequent...
متن کاملTrypanocidal activity of some endemic species of Satureja in Iran
Trypanosoma cruzi, a hemoflagellate protozoan (family Trypanosomatidae), is the ethiological agent of Chagas disease, which is affecting 16-18 million people, with more than 100 million exposed to the risk of infection. Higher plants are a potential source of new drugs to improve the treatment of Chagase disease. Until recently, Rutacea, Meliaceae, Simaroubaceae and Burceraceae families have be...
متن کاملTemporal variation in Trypanosoma cruzi lineages from the native rodent Octodon degus in semiarid Chile.
Chagas disease is a zoonosis caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi and transmitted by triatomine insects to several mammalian species acting as reservoir hosts. In the present study, we assess T. cruzi-prevalence and DTU composition of the endemic rodent Octodon degus from a hyper-endemic area of Chagas disease in Chile. Parasite detection is performed by PCR assays on blood sample...
متن کاملTrypanosoma cruzi discrete typing units in patients of Chagas disease and Triatoma infestans after insecticide spraying in Chile
In this study, we evaluate mixed discrete typing units (DTUs) of Trypanosoma cruzi present in 69 patients of Chagas disease and 92 Triatoma infestans collected under the entomological surveillance program after more than 20 years of intervention with insecticide spraying in Chile. Our aim is to identify T. cruzi DTUs still circulating in T. infestans and chronic patients to evaluate their impac...
